Nigeria’s defeat wake-up call – Cameroon coach

The coach of the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, Gabriel Zabo, says his team’s defeat to Nigeria at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on Thursday was a wake-up and the right motivation needed to pick up a World Cup ticket.

Zabo stated this during a press conference ahead of Cameroon Sunday’s play-offs against Botswana.

The Indomitable suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria to end their campaign in Morocco.

However, the head coach maintained that the elimination in the quarter-finals at the hand of the nine-time champions has awakened his players.

“The loss to Nigeria woke us up and now we are focused on qualifying for the World Cup,” he said just before their game on Sunday.

“We will keep the hope of achieving it because we have to win this match. We will do our best.

“Football is about skill and luck. We haven’t scored many goals in this tournament. We drew against Zambia in the opener, found the back of the net against Togo and then found our feet against Tunisia. Against Nigeria, we struggled to score but we worked to correct our mistakes and we want to do better against Botswana.”

Though the continental title is a thing of the past for the Central Africans but they still stand a chance of playing at the next year’s World Cup scheduled to hold in Australia/New Zealand.
