Monday, Sebastine, Waldrum out of awards

Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has been dropped from the final shortlist of three nominees for the Confederation of African Football’s Coach of The Year award, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Waldrum, who helped the team qualify for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, was overlooked for Desiree Ellis (South Africa), Bruce Mwape (Zambia), Reynald Pedros (Morocco) and Jerry Tshabalala (Mamelodi Sundowns).

Nigerians also excluded from the final shortlist for the awards are Gift Monday and Flourish Sebastine.

Monday, who was initially listed for the Interclub Player of The Year and Young Player of The Year awards, was dropped from both categories after the lists were pruned down to three each.

Ghana’s Evelyn Badu is up against South African duo Andile Dlamini and Bambanani Mbanie for the Interclub Player of The Year. Both Banyana Banyana players feature for Mamelodi Sundowns.

For the Young Player of The Year award, Badu is up against Doris Boaduwaa (Ghana & Sekondi Hasaacas Ladies) and Yasmine Zouhir (Morocco & AS Saint-Etienne).

Four-time winner, Asisat Oshoala, is in line to win another Africa Women’s Player of The Year award, following her superb performances with Barcelona Femini.

In the men’s category, former winners Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane and Senegal’s shot stopper Edouard Mendy, are the three named on the final shortlist.

The awards will be held in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday (today).
